The Narrow Street Pub and Dining Room

The Narrow

Features: Food, Real Ale, Cuisine: Gastro Pub
Average Price Per Person: £45
Nearest Transport: Limehouse / DLR, National Railway

The Narrow is Gordon Ramsay's first pub, located a Grade II-listed building in the Limehouse area of East London, directly alongside the River Thames. Given the area and the building's rich history, the decor of the pub retains the historic qualities of the building as well as relating the design to the locality and the history of the Limehouse area. Gordon Ramsay has created a warm and relaxed environment where the emphasis is on good quality food with real ales and ciders. The menu focuses on classic British dishes based around an array of seasonal ingredients. The Narrow is under the guidance of Mark Sargeant, Executive Chef at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's, who continues to oversee the creative development of the pubs for Gordon Ramsay.

I was bitetterly disapointed with the menu. There was very limited choice for vegetarian's.I settled for the Quiche, this appeard with a side salad of limp leaves. I ordered a side salad, and was served with another plate of limp leaves. The chips were heavily salted, which is highly unsuitable for any one with high blood pressure. The waiter hovered all through the meal, and took plates away before the group had finished eating. This particular waiter tried twice to take my wine glass when he could clearly see that I had not finished. When asked if I had enjoyed my meal I said no and stated quite clearly why, the waiter replied good and walked away...

Took my cousin for lunch for her 60th. The service was appalling. The food was quite good, however, but when my desert of treacle tart arrived I asked the waiter if it was half portions! The atmosphere was good and it is in a nice setting on the river. I think if they increase their portions of food and the staff get their act together they will do well here. Even the manager forgot about us when I asked for a table in the conservatory, he said he woukld set a table for us, but left us in the bar for ages. When I asked a waitress what was happening we were left again standing in the conservatory while they kept moving tables around!!

"Beautiful old building right beside the Thames, has a massive terrace great for a cheeky summer drink or too."

"Brilliant food, lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Grilled sea trout on spiced lentils was followed by a strawberry gratin with lavender and caramel ice cream. All freshly made with real ingredients."
